Rug Size Guide

Choosing the right rug size helps anchor your room and make the whole space feel balanced. Use this guide to find the size that works best for your home.

Our rugs are designed for real family living. The right size will help create a comfortable and practical space for everyday life.

Living Room Rug Sizes

160 × 230 cm

Best for smaller living rooms or apartments.

Works well when the rug sits in front of the sofa and under a coffee table, helping define the seating area without covering the entire floor.

200 × 300 cm

Ideal for larger living rooms.

The rug should sit under the front legs of the sofa and chairs to anchor the entire seating area and make the room feel connected.

Bedroom Rug Sizes

140 × 200 cm

Perfect for smaller bedrooms or kids rooms.

Place the rug beside the bed or partially underneath to create a soft landing when getting out of bed.

160 × 230 cm

Great for larger kids rooms or guest rooms.

The rug can sit under the lower half of the bed and extend out on both sides to create a warm and balanced feel.

Playroom Rug Sizes

140 × 200 cm

A great size for play corners, toy areas or reading nooks.

It creates a defined play space while still leaving room for movement.

160 × 230 cm

Ideal for larger playrooms where kids need more room to sit, build and play comfortably.

Round Rugs

150 cm round

Perfect for nurseries, reading corners and smaller bedrooms.

Round rugs soften the space and work beautifully under a small table, beside a bed or in a cosy corner.

Tips for Choosing the Right Rug Size

• A rug should help define a space, not float in the middle of the room
• In living rooms, try to place the front legs of furniture on the rug
• Leave around 30–40 cm of floor visible around the edges of the room
• In bedrooms, place the rug where your feet land when getting out of bed

Try the “Tape It Out” trick

One of the easiest ways to visualise rug size is to tape the outline on your floor before buying.

Use painter’s tape, masking tape or even a bedsheet to mark the rug dimensions in your room.

This lets you see exactly how the rug will sit in your space and how much floor area it will cover.

Example measurements:

140 × 200 cm → tape out a rectangle 1.4 m by 2 m
160 × 230 cm → tape out a rectangle 1.6 m by 2.3 m

You will instantly see:

• how the rug fits under furniture
• how much floor space remains
• whether the room feels balanced

This simple trick helps avoid choosing a rug that is too small or too large.

Common Rug Size Questions

What size rug is best for a kids room?

For most kids rooms, a 140 × 200 cm rug works beautifully. It provides enough space for playing, reading and soft floor comfort without overwhelming the room.

For larger bedrooms or shared kids rooms, a 160 × 230 cm rug helps anchor the space and creates a bigger soft play area.

How big should a rug be under a bed?

In kids bedrooms, rugs usually sit partly under the bed with the front section extending into the room.

A 140 × 200 cm rug works well beside or partially under a single bed.

For larger rooms, a 160 × 230 cm rug creates more coverage and helps frame the bed area while leaving soft space to step onto in the morning.

What size rug works for a playroom?

Playrooms benefit from larger rugs because they create a comfortable area for sitting, building and playing.

A 160 × 230 cm rug is ideal for most playrooms as it gives children plenty of space to spread out while keeping the room feeling warm and inviting.
